Winter Warmth Campaign 1st November 2023 - 31st January 2024

Please join our Winter Warmth campaign by collecting up and donating winter clothes like coats, jumpers and personal hygiene products to local charities to help at a time when many rough sleepers are starting to feel the effects of winter.
Every year there is always a shortage of warm clothing for those experiencing homelessness.
We work with agents and suppliers to the industry to encourage donations of warm clothes to local homeless hostels, shelters and charities.

We’re teaming up with Only A Pavement Away, who provide an astonishing 250,000 essential items yearly to those who are homeless or staying in hostels. Together, we’re making a real difference!

  • JOIN THE CAUSE: Get involved in our Winter Warmth Campaign! Help keep someone warm this winter by donating pre-loved winter attire to a homeless charity, shelter, or hostel near you. Not sure where to go? We’ve got you covered – reach out, and we’ll point you to your local drop-off location.
  • QUALITY MATTERS: Kindly ensure your donations are in tip-top condition. Please double-check that pockets are empty and all hygiene products are brand new and sealed.
  • GET IN TOUCH: Ready to make a positive impact? Let us know by filling out the form below. We’ll guide you to the closest charity, shelter, or hostel, and even help to showcase your generous act.

Only a Pavement Away

In 2018 Only A Pavement Away was founded as a charity whose purpose was to help the homeless, rough sleepers, ex-offenders and VETs find work in the hospitality industry.

There are many reasons why people are forced into homelessness such as lack of affordable housing, losing a job, mental health, leaving prison or the armed forces with no home to go to or escaping an abusive relationship.

There are many thousands of people facing or experiencing homelessness across the country today. Being ‘homeless’ can take many forms such as rough sleeping, people living in sheds, garages and other unconventional buildings, sofa surfing, hostels and unsuitable temporary accommodation such as B&Bs. (Ref: Crisis 2020)

In a country with the fifth largest economy, homelessness is a scandal – it is not acceptable. Only A Pavement Away wants to help to change that.

Chestertons Winter Coat Drive 23rd October - 20th November 2023

For the 10th consecutive year, Chestertons is proud to support charity Calling London in a mission to keep London’s homeless and most vulnerable warm throughout the winter.

From the 23rd October until 20th November, all of our London branches will become donation points for members of the public to drop off warm winter coats and jackets. Local schools, businesses and community groups are encouraged to get involved, and Chestertons employees also run their own collections from family, friends and neighbours.

“The impact of the cost of living crisis means the demand for winter coats is likely to be higher than ever, with many more families facing financial difficulties – so your kind donations are needed now more than ever.”

Since partnering with Calling London in 2013, Chestertons has collected more and more coats every year, starting with 200 in our first year and growing to an incredible 4000 in 2022. This winter we are hoping to collect even more coats as the demand is so much higher.

Drop your donations by Tuesday 20th November to any of our London branches.

Who is Calling London

Established in 2010 by Frances Manthos, Calling London collects winter coats and jackets and then distributes them to over 30 charitable organisations – helping the homeless, victims of domestic abuse, those living in poverty, the elderly, refugees and children.

Where can I drop off my donations?
Please drop your donations off at any of our London branches by Monday 20th November 2023. You can find all of our London addresses here.

Don’t live or work near one of our branches? Some of our staff are conducting local collections in Bromley, Leicestershire, Kent and other areas – email us for more information.

What winter clothing items are needed?

  • Coats of all styles
  • Ski jackets
  • Gilets
  • Fleeces

Do you accept other winter clothes?
No, unfortunately, we can only accept warm winter coats and jackets as detailed above.

I don’t have a coat to donate, is there another way I can help?
Yes – there are many ways you can support the coat drive. Take a look below:

Consider collecting coats to drop off to us: if your place of work, child’s school or college, or local church can run a collection, you are welcome to then drop these donations off at any Chestertons branch for them to be distributed to local charities.
Spread the word! Please share the message across your social media, speak to your friends and family about it, and message your contacts on WhatsApp.

If you would like to get involved and support this great cause, please email Marketing@Chestertons.co.uk or visit your local Chestertons branch.
