Providing meals and support services to homeless and vulnerable people
On the evening of Friday 15th November, Matthew Bound of Dezrez Software took part in ‘The Swans Big Sleepout’ which was organised to raise funds for a local homeless charity in Swansea called Matthews’ House. Matthews’ House provides meals and other support services to homeless and vulnerable people at the heart of the Swansea community. As well as raising funds, the other aim of the evening was to raise awareness of homelessness and the support that is required for vulnerable people in society.
Around 80 people attended the event which involved sleeping outside in the elements to get a small taste of what homeless people must endure every night. The Matthews’ House Community Choir were in attendance providing some pre-sleeping entertainment.
Made me realise how tough it must be for people who have no option but to sleep on the streets.
Matthew commented ‘The evening was a huge success with the combined fundraising total being over £30k which will give a massive boost to Matthews’ House. It was as expected extremely cold, but it did make me realise how tough it must be for people who have no option but to sleep on the streets.’
