Kate Bosworth of National Home Move will be taking part in FREEZE YOUR BITS AND BOBS OFF following on from the success of the Freeze Your Bits Off Bra Walk earlier this year which, thanks to all the supporters, raised £18000 for the Breast Cancer Now and PROSTaid and they’re back back for 2026 !
Kate tells her story “Why I Walk”. “The first time myself and Andrea took part (Jan2024) it was because we could, because we wanted to, because ‘you never know’
The second time me and my hubby took part (Jan25) it was six weeks after my operation and I was just happy and grateful and lucky that ‘we could nip this in the bud’ and do something! This time round, I personally am doing it as a kind of ‘pay it forward’, a thank you to those who came before me which helped me out, to now being able to do my bit to help and support those who come after me”.
“My first mammogram was in July 2024, and following all the tests, I was booked in for my operation in November 2024. It was at this point that I was a bit shocked and bit angry, not because I was there waiting for my operation, but because of the 7 of us on the ward that day, 4 of them were under the age of 30 and one lovely lady was in her 80’s and it just showed me that this cancer holds no prisoners no matter how old or young you are.
As of February 2025, I have been going through my ‘preventative’ treatment which included Chemotherapy, 3 weekly injections (which finish at the end of January 2026) plus 6 monthly infusions for my bones which will take me up to March 2028, so although the worst part is now over, I am still on my journey.
One of the side effects of my chemo treatment is the loss of feeling in my feet if I walk to far, the feeling that my feet are freezing cold all the time, and then they go numb and then they ‘defrost’, and for someone who loves walking, it is a wee bit frustrating but if this is now the worst thing I have to deal with I will take it.
Even if just doing a 3 mile walk is all I can muster right now, the fact that I am able to do this is all the more worth while for a course that is way bigger than me”.
