Agents Giving supporting Accumulate with the ‘Book of Home Less Ness’ 11 Nov 2019

Accumulate responded very quick to the pandemic

Due to the pandemic everything was put on hold.   Accumulate stopped the workshops just before lockdown started (the group are vulnerable and so they had to be very conscious of risk etc).
Accumulate pivoted very quickly and they started to send out art kits to their participants which quickly expanded into a much bigger project – they are now sending out 500 Accumulate Art Kits a time to hostels across London and also in Brighton and Bristol.

We're publishing five months later

Accumulate are also running online classes in podcasting and creative activities, just yesterday they did their first “socially distanced” workshop in an “emergency accommodation” in Harringay. Accumulate are now aiming for the book to be printed and produced just before Christmas, five months later than intended, but still just as wonderful and powerful!

The Accumulate charity is London’s Art school for the Homeless. It uses creativity to enrich and elevate the lives of young, homeless people who are living in hostels and temporary accommodation.

Check their website here

Their workshops cover photography, fashion, radio, creative writing, fashion and illustration and are run in collaboration with major art and cultural institutions including The Tate Modern, The Barbican, Somerset House, The Photographers’ Gallery, the BBC and The Guardian.

Agents Giving supporting Homelessness

The Accumulate participants often come from difficult, complicated and diverse backgrounds, including abusive relationships, mental health and substance abuse, foster care and prison backgrounds. Through the Accumulate programme they become engaged in something personally rewarding and meaningful, develop their life skills and self-esteem and start to have the ambition to think and plan for a more positive future.  Please do help, donate and help to change a young, homeless person’s life through creativity so that they can have a better future.  Thank you so much!

Accumulate also provides scholarships for their participants to progress their creative education and study on the one-year Digital Media and Design course at Ravensbourne University London. This is a life-changing experience that radically transforms a young person’s life and future. So far, 15 people have received Accumulate scholarships and four of these have gone on to study on an undergraduate degree.

This coming year Accumulate is undertaking a major project to create and publish The Book of Homelessness, a major new graphic novel (first of its kind!)- written, drawn and produced by young homeless people. Accumulate is working with residents from 9 hostels on this, who will be creating visuals and narratives about their own stories, experience and lives which will then become the content for The Book of Homelessness.

The Book of Homelessness will raise awareness of how extensive homelessness is and how it affects so many people. All profits from the sales of the book will be shared with the artists so that they can earn money from their creativity and Accumulate so that it can continue to provide creative workshops and support for people who are marginalised from society and at risk of further exclusion.

They are fundraising, via a crowdfunder to make The Accumulate Book of Homelessness project happen and need your help! Every donation given will receive a reward – such as signed copies, attending a creative workshop or even having a photoshoot or scholarship named after you!
