1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced domestic abuse at some point

Caroline Deeprose, Joanne Noonan and Natalie Brookman of Noonans Property Services, St Neots set up The Property Angels Foundation Charity during the COVID Pandemic of 2020 when cases of domestic abuse soared dramatically.

Caroline Deeprose comments “As Property professionals we have access to the lives of many people, but would you know the signs of domestic abuse and what to do if someone asked for help? The property industry is in a unique position here; as employers with teams, work is often a ‘safe haven’ for victims of abuse but also as professionals going into people’s homes, we see behind those closed doors. The responsibility is twofold.”

1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced domestic abuse at some point in their lives was blown out of the water at a meeting back in December 2020.  Noonan Property services just so happen to be an all-female estate agency of 7 women at that time.

Joanne Noonan, Co-Founder comments “When the girls were discussing causes that meant something to us at a team meeting, we discovered we had ALL experienced domestic abuse in one form or another at some point in our lives. All 7 of us. It was incredible. We decided then and there, this was a cause we just had help – it meant so much to us all. And so the foundation was born and the fundraising began.”

Domestic Abuse is psychological as well as physical and can go on for years, hidden behind closed doors.

Natalie Brookman Co-Founder, helped several women and men who were tenants, escape their abusive situations and worked closely with the authorities to enable them to move to safe accommodation. She says, “People in abusive relationships often feel very isolated and that their situation is hopeless.  But help is out there, and with right support, you don’t have to live in fear.”

The Property Angels Foundation supports families affected by domestic abuse throughout St Neots, Huntingdon, St Ives and the surrounding villages

They work with organisations such as the local NHS Social Prescribing Teams, Mid Cambs Refuge and the Cambridgeshire Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Partnership and other specialist support agencies, providing families with ‘Back to Life’ support.

They provide essential ‘Back to Life’ support such as:

  • Social activities for emotional well-being, such as the monthly ‘Angel Walk and Talk’ sessions at local parks
  • Supermarket vouchers or paying for transport
  • Assigning resources such as legal advice, counsellors, or psychotherapists
  • Finding work experience or training and development
  • Providing DIY/trades people/items for the home
  • Helping grow a family’s self-esteem and self-confidence through holistic therapies, self-care, meditative classes or life coaching
  • Funding projects for our local women’s family refuges

Agents Giving & The Guild of Property Professionals are delighted to support such a good cause.
