David Beaken Director at Oakley Property & 2020 President of The Brighton & Hove Estate Agents Association will be putting on his trainers to take on the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 12th April 2026.
David tells “Taking on Me vs. My 24-Year-Old Self: The Brighton Marathon 2026. Every year, I push myself with a “BIG” challenge. This year, I’m taking on the Brighton Marathon, and this time, it’s personal.
The History: Back in 2010, at age 24, I was backed into a corner by a bet with a friend. I wasn’t a runner, but I finished the London Marathon in 4 hours and 50 minutes. It was the hardest thing I’d ever done, and I swore I’d never do it again.
The Challenge: Fast forward to my 40s. I’ve started running again and a question started nagging at me: Can the 40-year-old version of me beat the 24-year-old version? They say you’re in your running prime in your 40s, but they forget to mention that injuries take twice as long to heal and “life” (and a wonderful family!) makes training a lot more of a juggle than it was 15 years ago. My goal isn’t just to finish—it’s to beat 4h 50m.
This incredible Sussex-based charity is a lifeline for young adults (14–26), helping them build the confidence and life skills they need to thrive. After visiting The Old School House, I saw firsthand the amazing work the staff and volunteers do. They transform lives, and I want to help them keep those doors open.
Please donate what you can to help me beat my younger self and, more importantly, support the incredible young people at ESTEEM”.
Agents Giving and The Guild of Property Professionals grant fund are honoured to support David with his being 40 challenge in aid of Esteem Charity. Good luck!
