Offering immediate help in the form of food and clothing

This year Thomas Charles lettings are pleased to support SMART Prebend Centre with their Cold Relief in Bedford (CRIB) appeal.

SMART Prebend Street centre has been used as a safe place for people experiencing homelessness in Bedford since 1992. Offering immediate help in the form of meals, warm clothing and hot showers to those in need as well as support with practical advice on debt, housing, health and mental health.

Thomas Charles Lettings Manager Julie Brown comments “With the support of Agents Giving, Thomas Charles Lettings are collating a care package which will include a new sleeping bag, socks and toiletries to be delivered to the centre.

We acknowledge how difficult things are in the current climate, however if anyone is able to donate any unwanted sleeping bags, winter coats or men’s clothing, these will be gratefully received at the centre on Prebend street”.

The SMART CRIB annual appeal has been running for over a decade, now and sadly, the need for it also grows year by year. Already we are experiencing our highest ever demand for meals and a warm shelter; since April, numbers of people presenting for meals has risen by 30% to 750 people per month at the latest count. We are expecting this to rise again as the cold weather takes hold and the cost-of-living creeps up.

What is CRIB?

CRIB has become THE landmark appeal for giving in Bedford during the coldest months of the year. We are asking our supporters to think of our beneficiaries, and to share what money, food and donations they have with those who are already struggling in the current climate. We acknowledge that EVERYONE is having to dig deep this year and times are tough; please ONLY GIVE what you can truly afford.
