Owen Davies of Dawsons Estate Agents, Swansea has taken on running a marathon in Cyprus in aid of his grandparents. Owen comments “My charity event started back in October of 2023 where I decided to look at raising money for a local Charity in Wales called the Forget-me-not chorus who have been a huge driving force for my family and especially my Grandad (Babs) who suffers from Dementia.
My family found it hard when he started to get worse, but then he came along to the Forget me not chorus who offer music session – their aim is to bring joy and laughter to those living with or alongside dementia/Alzheimer’s. Singing through song is powerful and to see the joy that it brings for everyone involved even for that one hour or song makes it worthwhile! I’ve been raising money through running two half marathons (Cardiff & Singapore) and also a marathon on-top which I recently completed in Cyprus, Paphos, with having to train before and after work for these events has proved tough a times but knowing that I was doing it for them provided me with the motivation to get it done and work for the medals!”
We’ve managed to achieve over £1000 to date and hope to spread awareness.
The impact of dementia can be devastating, FMNC sessions are far from sad. Joy and laughter are the norm and choristers range in age from their teens to nineties. By inspiring everyone to participate to the best of their abilities, FMNC’s work re-connects communities and demonstrates the transformational power of song!
Agents Giving and The Guild of Property Professionals are delighted to support such an amazing charity for their inspiring work supporting patients with dementia.
